Looking back, it appears that my last entry to this blog was on November 26, 2012 when I was 5 days post-op. Apparently consistent updating isn't my thing !
In the last almost 7 months I've made a full recovery, and am trying to get back in to that healthy-active lifestyle which I know is so important for my health and well-being.
I (think) that I've made significant progress with my cycling, in that prior to this year I hadn't been on a bike since my days on the campus of the University of Waterloo. That was A LONG TIME AGO ! These days, I aim to be on my bike at least a couple of times a week and have been trying to get one long ride a week in with my Sweetie.
In recent months, I've been trying to build up some stamina and strength for our upcoming Charity bicycle tour . While I'm uncertain whether I'll be able to complete each day's ride for a total of 940km over 7 days, I am certain that I'm going to give it a good try ! I'm looking at this whole tour as an experience in something most people would never consider doing or trying. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, or so they say.
Today I rode a route I've never been down before, either by bicycle or automobile.
A beautiful ride along the lakeshore of Port Colborne, through Lowbanks, Burnaby, passing by Long Beach and Rock Point along the way.
We experienced nature, saw wildlife (a red fox !), smelled the stink of the shoreline, rode past enormous windmills and explored a Provincial Park I've only ever heard about.
All in all a good day.
I consider that to be a step in the right direction. The tour is a short 3 weeks away now ACK ! and I'll admit I'm stressing just a teeny tiny little bit. But I'm looking forward to it with nervous anticipation.
Stay tuned for details on the ride, and my survival !
